List of Indonesian football champions

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Indonesian football champions have all been title holders in the country's highest league since football leagues began in 1931. Up until the 1978/79 season there was only one amateur league, the Perserikatan . From 1979 the semi-professional Galatan was added, but the amateur league continued in parallel until 1994, so that there were always two champions during this period. In 1994 the league was then completely professionalized and ran under the name Liga Indonesia Premier Division . This was the predecessor of the single-track top Indonesian league, the Indonesia Super League (ISL), founded in 2008 , which was renamed League 1 in 2017 . Due to disputes, there were now two parallel first leagues, which is why there were two champions in the 2011/12 season. The dispute was settled and both leagues merged again for the 2014 season. In 2015, the Ministry of Sports canceled the season, whereupon FIFA suspended the Indonesian Football Association due to state interference. In 2016, therefore, no championship was held either.
