List of Libyan ambassadors to the GDR
The secretary of the People's Office of the Socialist Libyan Arab People's Jamahiriya in the GDR was a diplomat with the rank of ambassador of the government of Muammar al-Gaddafi to the government of the GDR .
Diplomatic relations between Libya and the GDR were affected on March 4, 1978 by the crash of an Aérospatiale SA 321 in which GDR party officials Werner Lamberz and Paul Markowski , interpreter Armin Ernst and photo reporter Hans-Joachim Spremberg were killed in Libya . Since deliberate action could not be ruled out in this crash, the Libyan diplomatic personnel in the GDR were monitored by the terrorism department of the Ministry for State Security .
In the dispute over the Great Syrte between the governments of the USA and the government of Muammar al-Gaddafi , the Palestinians, with the help of personnel from the Libyan People's Office in the GDR, attacked the La Belle discotheque . Mohammed Ashur alias Alba, who was part of the staff at the Libyan embassy in Bonn in the 1960s, had warned the Ministry of State Security and the Central Intelligence Agency about the bomb attack. On May 1, 1986, Mohammed Ashur was shot in front of the “ Haus Zenner ” restaurant in Treptower Park .
