List of Prussian trade ministers .

In the first half of the 19th century this area of responsibility was run as a department (section) of the Ministry of the Interior. However, several leaders already carried the title of "minister" or were called "trade ministers" by contemporaries.

On April 17, 1848, an independent ministry was formed. The official title was: "Minister for Trade, Industry and Public Works".

The service building in Berlin-Mitte was the former gold and silver factory at Wilhelmstrasse  79. In 1854/55 the building was raised by one floor according to plans by Friedrich August Stüler , and in 1868 a new building at the adjacent Wilhelmstrasse 80 was added.

On April 17, 1878, the area of public works (infrastructure) was spun off (see list of Prussian ministers of public works ). Accordingly, the remaining title was "Minister for Trade and Industry". Nevertheless, both ministries were still run in personal union until 1879.

In 1932, with the so-called “ Preußenschlag ”, the designation “Minister for Economics and Labor” was introduced.

In 1740, when King Friedrich II took office, the “Department for Factories, Commerce and Manufactures” was founded, which in the administrative structure at that time corresponded to a Ministry of Economics. The responsible ministers (who mostly covered other areas of responsibility) were also called trade ministers. There were also ministers before, but they were responsible for many areas.

Remarks

  • Different times are sometimes mentioned in the literature. This is because they refer to provisional assumption of office, appointment by the king and prime minister, formal inauguration; the same applies to a request for dismissal, approval of farewell and transfer of office / appointment of a successor. This can lead to gaps or overlaps, especially in turbulent times and if the predecessor is ill.
  • Other first names were sometimes used during his lifetime, as it later became naturalized in literature. Therefore the full name is given.
