List of global systemically important banks

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of global systemically important banks ( English List of Global systemically important banks - G-SIBs ) is the Financial Stability Board (FSB; German and Financial Stability Board ) issued capturing the world's systemically important banks . The global systemically important banks are a subset of systemically important financial institutions (English systemically important financial institutions - SIFIs ).

The list is updated annually and published in November each year. There can be new entries and deletions every year, and the number of banks recorded is not fixed.

history

The list is a reaction to the financial crisis from 2007 and is linked to higher or additional requirements for the loss-bearing capacity of large banks , for the planning of restructuring and liquidation as well as intensified supervision. Depending on the group classification, this means, among other things, from 2016 onwards the establishment of an additional equity buffer ("liability quota") with the aim of achieving a minimum level of share capital and revenue reserves in 2019 (see Basel III # transition phase ).

The initial list of global systemically important banks dated November 4, 2011 is based on the methodology published by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision in July 2011 in a consultation paper. The methodology is reviewed every three years and adjusted if necessary.
