List of forest areas in Denmark

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of forest areas in Denmark includes the largest contiguous forest areas in the actual national territory of Denmark (excluding the Faroe Islands and Greenland ). 12.4 percent of the country, a total of 534,000 hectares (as of 2006), is covered with forest. Of this, around 43 percent made up deciduous forest - led by beech (72,000 hectares), oak (47,000 hectares) and ash (20,000 hectares) as the most widespread deciduous tree species. 54 percent of the forest areas were covered by coniferous forest , whereby the Norway spruce (102,000 ha), the Sitka spruce(34,000 ha) and the Nordmann fir (21,000 ha) were among the most widespread conifer species. 4 percent belonged to the other areas or had no vegetation. Two thirds of the total area is owned by private individuals or private companies.

If the Rold Skov was previously the largest, contiguous forest area in Denmark, an investigation by the authority Skov- og Naturstyrelsen (today: Naturstyrelsen ) of the Danish Ministry of the Environment showed that the forest area south of Silkeborg , which includes the area around Gludsted, St Hjøllund, Skærbæk, Velling, Løndal and Addithus is larger. There is a likelihood that the area will grow together with a second large forest area to form a large green belt in the coming years. The area (No. 8 on the list) is also in the south of Silkeborg and includes the areas around Vesterskov, Thorsø, Sønderskov and Rye Nørreskov.
