Lith, church: de Sint Lambertuskerk

Lith ( listen ? / I ) is a place and was a municipality in the Dutch province of Noord-Brabant until it was incorporated into the municipality of Oss on January 1, 2011 . Lith lies on the Meuse ; At Lith there is a system with two locks, which make navigation on the Meuse less dependent on the water level (Prinses Máxima Sluizen: 110 m × 14 m wide and 220 m × 18 m wide). This lock system is the first in the river (seen from the Maas mouth); up to Lith, the effects of ebb and flow on the water level of the Meuse can be felt. Audio file / audio sample

Lith is best known for the book Dorp aan de Rivier (Village on the River) by Antoon Coolen . The feature film for this book by Fons Rademakers was shot in lith. In 1956 he was nominated for an Oscar (for best foreign feature film).

In 1939 there was a reorganization of the community. The two communities Lithoijen and Oijen en Teeffelen were incorporated into Lith. In 1958 the municipality of Alem, Maren en Kessel was dissolved: Alem was incorporated into Rossum , now part of Maasdriel in the province of Gelderland ; the districts of Kessel and Maren were incorporated into Lith.
