Litterio Paladini or Paladino (* 1691 in Messina ; † 1743 there at the plague ) was an Italian painter and engraver of the late Baroque in Sicily .

Life

Paladini received his training in Rome in the workshop of Sebastiano Conca (1680–1764). During his stay in the city for several years, according to Thieme-Becker, he also dealt with the painting of Annibale Carracci , who, as the most important member of the Bolognese school of painting , created his famous frescoes in the Palazzo Farnese between 1597 and 1604 , which were groundbreaking for Roman art . The strong contrast in its color values suggests an influence of Neapolitan painting , as represented by Francesco Solimena (1657–1747).

Around 1730 he was back in Messina, where he mainly painted panels and frescoes for churches . Most of his frescoes were destroyed by the severe earthquake of 1908 . One of his students was his nephew Giuseppe Paladini .
