The Little Scioto River is a 41 miles long right tributary of the Ohio River in the southern US state of Ohio . He drained an area of 603 square kilometers and is part of the river system of the Mississippi River . It drains into the Gulf of Mexico via the Ohio River and Mississippi River .

The Little Scioto River rises about 7 kilometers northeast of the village of Beaver in western Jackson County . It then flows in a generally south-southwest direction through the counties Jackson and Scioto and flows into the Ohio River in the east of the city of Sciotoville . Its main tributaries are the 14 miles long Rocky Fork Little Scioto River , 14 miles long Sugarcamp Creek and the 13 miles long Holland Fork . The United States Board on Geographic Names named the river Little Scioto River in 1913 . In the course of its history it was also called Brushy Fork, Little Siota River and Little Sciota River .

The river's water has been heavily polluted by creosote in the past . A company located near the river that produced wood preservatives is considered to be the cause . In 2002 a large-scale project began to clean up the contaminated company premises and a 2-kilometer stretch of river.
