The Little Vermilion River is a right tributary of the Wabash River in the US states of Illinois and Indiana . The river is 96 km long and drains an area of about 630 km² (520 km² of which in Illinois).
The Little Vermilion River has its source in Champaign County in eastern Illinois. It flows in a predominantly easterly direction through the southern part of Vermilion County . South of Georgetown , the river has been dammed since 1948 to form the 26 hectare Georgetown Lake . This used to be used to supply drinking water to Georgetown. The Little Vermilion River crosses the Indiana border and joins the Wabash River near Newport in Vermillion County . The Vermilion River , also a tributary of the Wabash River, runs further north.
Historic bridges
At Newport the river is spanned by the Newport Covered Bridge ( Burr Truss construction, built in 1885, renewed in 1983).
