The Little White River is an approximately 115 km long left tributary of the Mississagi River in the Algoma District in south-central Ontario in Canada .

River course

The Little White River has its origins in an unnamed lake about 50 km north of the small town of Elliot Lake . From there it initially flows 10 km south before turning south-west. The Ontario Highway 546 follows the river for a distance of about 40km. The lower 70 km of the river is in Little White River Provincial Park . The Kindiogami River flows into the Little White River from the right, the Boland River from the left. The West Little White River flows 47 km above the mouth from the north, after leaving Endikai Lake 500 m further north , into the Little White River. The Ontario Highway 554 crosses the river 7 km above the mouth . This finally reaches the Mississagi River 22 km northeast of the small town of Thessalon , located on the north bank of the North Channel (Huron Sea) .

The Little White River has a small number of river loops . The largely pristine water also has a number of rapids and flat areas with gravel. The river bank is mostly lined with forest. Mainly silver maple , black ash and American elm grow . There are also several wetlands with oxbow lakes and floodplains on the river.

Hydrology

The Little White River drains an area of ​​about 1970 km². The mean discharge 7 km above the mouth is 27.2 m³ / s. The spring flood is usually in April and in May. During these months the river carries the largest amounts of water with an average of 72.0 and 60.7 m³ / s.

Fish fauna

To fish fauna include lake trout (lake trout), brook trout (speckled trout) and rainbow trout (rainbow trout).

Freetime activities

The river is known as canoeing waters. The provincial park, which covers almost the entire course of the river, has no infrastructure.
