Liutauras Barila (born February 10, 1974 in Vilnius ) is a former Lithuanian biathlete . It competed in eight Winter Olympics and Biathlon World Championships between 1995 and 2002 .

Liutauras Barila works as a police officer and lives in Vilnius . He has been doing biathlon since 1990. He made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup in 1993 in a sprint race in Lillehammer , which he finished in 106th. At the following race in Östersund he came 93rd for the first time to a double-digit place. It took two years for the Lithuanians in Antholz first time Biathlon World Championships 1995 took part. In the sprint he was 80th, with the relay he came in 21st. In the next seasons he regularly competed in World Cup races and usually placed in the range of ranks between 50 and 90. He was able to achieve better placements several times. The athlete's first Olympic Winter Games took place in Nagano in 1998 . He was 43rd in the individual and 59th in the sprint. Since the sprint was not yet Olympic at that time, it was then held as a World Championship race in which the Lithuanian was 27th. Barila's best World Cup result was shortly thereafter a 14th place, which he achieved in a sprint race in Pokljuka in 1998 . He was able to leave athletes like Frode Andresen , Frank Luck , Raphaël Poirée or Tomasz Sikora behind. In the summer of the year he took part in the Summer Biathlon World Championships in Osrblie . There he was 12th in the sprint and 39th in the pursuit. Barila ran the best world championships in 1999 in Kontiolahti . In the sprint he reached a 27th place again, in the pursuit he then fell back to 48th place. The 2002 Winter Olympics marked the end of his career . In the individual, Barila was 62nd in the sprint 82nd.
