Liz Yelling (born Elizabeth Talbot ; born December 5, 1974 in Welwyn Garden City ) is a British long-distance runner .

Life

She was three times English cross-country champion and fourth in the 10,000-meter run at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in her best time of 31: 58.39.

In 2003 she was eighth in her debut over this distance at the Berlin Marathon in 2:30:58. At the marathon of the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 , she finished 25th as the best British woman. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games marathon , she took bronze in 2:32:19. In 2008 she set her best time as ninth of the London Marathon with 2:28:33. In the 2007 Chicago Marathon heat race , she finished fourth in 2:37:14.

Liz Yelling is 1.74 m tall and weighs 56 kg. She has been friends with Paula Radcliffe since she was young . Like Radcliffe, Yelling is a member of the Bedford & County AC athletics club and is coached by Alex and Rosemary Stanton. In 1999 she married the duathlete Martin Yelling, who was twice British champion in his sport. Her sister-in-law Hayley Yelling is also one of the best British long-distance runners.

She has been a professional athlete since 2002, previously teaching sports and housekeeping. She writes a column for the English magazine Running Fitness and published the book The Real Woman's Guide to Running in 2006 . She is also an athlete ambassador for the development aid organization Right to Play .
