Hayley Yelling (born January 3, 1974 in Dorchester ) is a British long-distance runner .

Life

In 2001 she was eliminated from the World Championships in Edmonton over 5000 meters in the preliminary run and was eighth at the European Cross Country Championships in Thun . The following year, starting for England , she was fifth over 10,000 meters at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and came in over 5000 meters at the European Championships in Munich in 2002 in 18th place.

In 2003, she finished at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Avenches Rank 19. As a replacement for the injured Mara Yamauchi she jumped at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in Vilamoura and came at her debut over this distance at No. 37. By the European Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh was she fifth and won gold with the British team.

In 2004 she narrowly failed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Athens with 14 hundredths of a second over the specified 10,000 meter standard of 31:45 min . At the end of the season she celebrated her greatest success to date by winning the title at the European Cross Country Championships in Heringsdorf .

In 2005 she was fourth at the Great South Run and sixth at the European Cross Country Championships in Tilburg , in 2006 she was sixth over 10,000 meters at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne , but did not get past 15th at the European Championships in Gothenburg . Again she finished fourth in the Great South Run, and on the half marathon course of the Great North Run, which was not suitable for the best list because of its slope , she was eighth with a time of 1:12:11 h. Another sixth place followed at the European Cross Country Championships in San Giorgio su Legnano .

In 2007 in Mombasa she achieved her best placement at 16th place at the World Cross Country Championships. At the Great South Run she was second, at the Great North Run fifth in 1:12:14 h and at the European Cross Country Championships in Toro ninth.

Another unsuccessful attempt to qualify for the Beijing Olympic Games followed in 2008 . After she had contributed to the silver medal win of the British team with a 19th place at the European Cross Country Championships in Brussels , she announced the end of her sporting career.

She then became a math teacher at Sir William Borlase School in Marlow ( Buckinghamshire ). At the end of 2009 she returned to competitive sport and qualified for the European Cross Country Championships in Dublin , where she caused a sensation with a sovereign victory. In 2010 she took 63rd place at the World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz and 28th place at the European Cross Country Championships in Albufeira .

She was three times English champion over 5000 meters (2002, 2003, 2005) and over 10,000 meters (2002, 2003, 2006), twice in cross-country running ( 2003, 2005) and once in 10 km road running (2006).

Hayley Yelling is trained by Conrad Milton and starts for the Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow Athletic Club. She has been married to Jamie Higham since August 1, 2009. Her sister-in-law Liz Yelling is also successful in long-distance running.
