Lobotomy was a Swedish death and thrash metal band from Stockholm , which was formed in 1990 and disbanded in 2000.

history

The band was formed in 1990 and emerged from the break-up of the band Rapture. Together the members developed some songs and released their first demo When Death Draws Near in January 1991 . The songs have been used on many compilations. This was followed by appearances together with Dismember , Disharmonic Orchestra , Desultory , Excruciate and Unanimated . Many labels were interested in releasing an EP with the band, so they recorded their first EP Instinct of Brutality in July of the same year . When the recordings were finished, the labels didn't have enough money to release the EP, so the project never ended. As a result, the band recorded another demo and released it in June 1992 under the name Against the Gods . In December the band recorded another demo called Nailed In Misery , a demo for the Italian label Obscure Plasma Records (now Avantgarde Records ). However, the person in charge of the label who wanted to sign the band left the label to work at Metal Hammer , so the demo wasn't released until June 1993. As a result, the band reached a contract with the Finnish label Rising Realm Records and released the EP Hymn in January 1994.

Due to the success of the EP, the band got a contract with an Austrian label in September. The band recorded their debut album at SVLT Dead House . However, difficulties arose with the label while the recordings were still being made, so that the band had to part with them and the recordings could not be completely finished. The band sent the recordings they had already made to other labels to get a new contract and in May 1995 they signed with House of Kicks , which also included labels like No Fashion Records and Chaos Records . In the meantime, the band also played appearances with Dissection , Vomitory and A Canorous Quintet . The album was released in November 1995.

In early December 1996, the band went to Sunlight Studios to record another album. The recordings ended in January 1997. The album produced by Tomas Skogsberg was released in June 1997 and was called Kill . In 1998, the band was barely heard of because the members were busy with private problems. In May 1999 they released another album called Born In Hell . The sound carrier was recorded again in the Sunlight Studios with producer Jocke Pettersson (drummer for Dawn and Regurgitate ). Performances with bands such as Vomitory, Meshuggah , Coercion and Carnal Forge followed . The album was released in March 2000 in Canada and the United States through Metal Blade Records . In the same year the band released an EP called Holy Shit on No Fashion Records . The songs were created while recording Born In Hell . Shortly after the EP was released, guitarist Lars Jelleryd left the band and was replaced by Jakob Leczinsky. The band played a few gigs before breaking up. Etienne Belmar then joined the band Undercroft .

style

The band plays a mixture of classic Thrash and Death Metal, with the songs mostly in the mid-tempo range.
