history
In the village, first mentioned in writing in 1505, a two-day battle of the Khmelnyzkyi uprising took place between the defeated troops of the Ukrainian hetman Bohdan Chmelnyzkyj and the victorious troops of the Polish field hetman Janusz Radziwiłł , in the course of which more than 12,000 soldiers were killed.
In 1861 there were 361 farms, two Orthodox churches and two Jewish schools in Lojeu. The population was mainly Orthodox. The first public school was built in 1863. By 1914 the village had 8,000 inhabitants and a bridge over the Dnieper to connect with Chernihiv and Kiev .
During the Russian Civil War , Lojeu was occupied by Polish troops. In a counter-offensive by the Dnepr flotilla, as a result of which the Dnepr bridge was destroyed, the village was liberated again.
Between August 1941 and October 16, 1943, the place was occupied by Nazi Germany .
