The Petrov nad Desnou – Kouty nad Desnou railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated as a state-guaranteed local Petersdorf – Winkelsdorf ( Czech Místní dráha Petrovice – Kouty ) railway. It branches off in Petrov nad Desnou ( Petersdorf ) from the Zábřeh na Moravě – Sobotín railway and runs in the Desná ( Teß ) valley to Kouty nad Desnou ( Winkelsdorf ).

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

On July 29, 1903, “ the royal governor's council Julius Boehse in Klein-Mohrau in association with the industrialist Ignaz Seidl in Mährisch Schönberg and the industrialist Friedrich Schiller in Groß-Ullersdorf was granted the concession to build and operate a standard-gauge local train from the Petersdorf-Ullerdorf station of the kk state railway line Hohenstadt – Zöptau to Winkelsdorf ”. Part of the concession was the obligation to start construction of the line immediately and to finish it within two years. The company's share capital totaled 800,000 crowns. The company was based in Mährisch Schönberg . The line was opened on November 12, 1904.

The operation was carried out by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) for the account of the Petersdorf – Winkelsdorf local railway. In 1912 the timetable of the local railway indicated three daily mixed pairs of trains, 2nd and 3rd class. During the tourist season in summer, other trains were added on Sundays and public holidays that ran purely as passenger trains. The trains took between 50 and 62 minutes for the 13-kilometer route.

After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) took over the management of the kkStB. In 1936, the Petersdorf – Winkelsdorf local railway became the property of ČSD after all shares were taken over.

In the 1930s, the use of modern motorized trains made it possible to compact the timetable as well as significantly shorten the journey time to just 35 to 40 minutes uphill. The winter timetable of 1937/38 recorded seven 3rd class passenger train pairs, six of which operated as motor trains. Some of the passenger trains were tied to and from Mährisch Schönberg and Hohenstadt.

After the Sudetenland was annexed to Germany in autumn 1938, the line came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Breslau . The connection was now included in the Reich curriculum as KBS 154q Petersdorf – Winkelsdorf . This was accompanied by the final nationalization and dissolution of the local Peterdorf – Winkelsdorf railway. The law of August 2, 1940 "concerning the takeover of railways in the Reichsgau Sudetenland and in the parts of the southern German territories incorporated into the Reichsgaue Oberdonau and Niederdonau" regulated a. a. the nationalization of nine local railways with a total length of 169.77 km, in which the Czechoslovak state had already held the majority of the shares.

After the end of the Second World War in May 1945, the line came back to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, the line was transferred to the newly founded Czech state railway organization České dráhy (ČD).

On July 7, 1997, the line was badly damaged in a flood. This event occurred at a time when there was serious effort in the Czech Republic to reduce the secondary route network. In this situation, a municipal association ( Svazek obcí údolí Desné ) was founded on October 16, 1997 on the initiative of the mayor of Rapotín , which took over the route on May 1, 1998. On December 1, 1998, it went back into operation under the brand name "Železnice Desná". The management initially took over the company Stavební obnova železnic , since October 1st, 2002 Connex Morava (today Arriva Morava) has been the commissioned railway company for passenger transport. Since May 1, 2005, freight traffic has again been handled by ČD (today: ČD Cargo ).

In 2013 the municipal association Svazek obcí údolí Desné announced the electrification of the line. Work began on June 18, 2015 and was completed by November 2015. In addition to the construction of the catenary, the line was also extensively modernized. All train stations and stops have new, barrier-free platforms with a usable length of 90 meters. From December 2015, according to the original plans, the passenger trains from Olomouc to Kouty nad Desnou, which had previously ended in Šumperk, were to be tied through. Locomotive-hauled trains will operate temporarily until December 2016, while diesel multiple units will continue to run.

Vehicle use

The operating kkStB acquired two locomotives of the kkStB series 97 for the account of the Petersdorf – Winkelsdorf local railway . They had the company numbers 97.233 and 97.234.

Arriva handled the travel up to the point of electrification with class 810 and 814 railcars . In 2016, most passenger trains ran with a ČD class 162 locomotive rented by Regiojet and former German Bimdz interregional cars.

Electric multiple units of the ČD series 640 have been in service since December 2016 .
