Lola Astanova
Lola Astanova ( Russian Лола Астанова / Lola Astanova ; * 1982 in Tashkent , USSR ) is an Uzbek pianist who is known for her interpretations of the compositions of Chopin , Liszt and Rachmaninov .
Life
At the age of six, Lola began taking music lessons from Professor Tamara Popowitsch at the elite music school W. Uspensky Special School for Music for Gifted Children . She also frequently visited Moscow to take piano lessons from Professor Lev Naumow of the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory . Lev Naumov said: “Lola Astanova has a rare and truly ingenious talent. Chopin, played by Lola, is simply unique. "
Lola Astanova started performing at the age of eight. She has performed in Germany , France , Austria , Italy and Russia , both with solo programs and with orchestras. In 1996 she was the winner of the International Chopin Competition for Young Pianists in Moscow . In 1998 she was featured in the UNESCO documentary "Prodigies of the 20th Century".
In 2003 Astanova emigrated to the USA . She made her debut at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington in 2004. In 2005 she received her Masters Degree ( summa cum laude ) from Rice University . In September 2007, Lola Astanova released her first US album entitled DEBUT , which was marketed exclusively through iTunes .
In October 2007, Lola Astanova became a star of the Classical Superstars Fantasy Concerts with Valery Gergiev and the Kirov Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater , and she received an Emmy for Regis Philbin's Winning TV Personality . The concert was included in the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book Centennial Edition and raised $ 1.6 million.
In August 2008, the National Museum announced in memory of September 11 Lola Astanovas historic run on the famous Steinway - grand piano of Vladimir Horowitz on the occasion of the charity event "Notes of Hope" that the mayor Michael Bloomberg presented. The event also featured screenings from comedian and actor Denis Leary and rock singer John Mellencamp .
