She completed her university education in English with magna cum laude from Tufts University and then worked as a radio news announcer for WORC in Worcester , Massachusetts . Her television career began as a local reporter and announcer for WJAR-TV in Providence, and later for WCBS-TV in New York City , where she worked as an investigative journalist between 1979 and 1982.
As a national reporter for the CBS , she rose to prominence from Chicago from 1982 to 1984 . She later became a correspondent for news magazines such as West 57th (1985-89) and 60 Minutes (1989-91). Her last job for CBS was from 1992 to 1993 as a co-host of the CBS Morning News . In 1993 she moved to ABC as a correspondent for Turning Point . The broadcast was discontinued in 1997.
Vieira worked for ABCs from its first broadcast in 1997 through spring 2006 as the host of The View magazine . She minced words on many topics, even controversial topics or her sex life. In an interview she gave to Time magazine , she admitted that she had not watched the show since she left The View , with one exception - the farewell to presenter Star Jones. She is proud of the work that has been done, but these are difficult times for the show. It had become a joke. Shortly after that interview, she corrected her statement in the New York Post that The View itself was not a joke. The interview is quoted from the context and your comments should not represent disregard.
In 1999, she began hosting the Intimate Portrait program for Lifetime Television, which portrayed the lives of women in the arts, entertainment, business, science, journalism and sports.

The day after Katie Couric announced (April 2006) that she was leaving the Today show , Vieira received an offer from NBC to replace Couric, which she accepted. The following day, Vieira announced her withdrawal from The View . Your job as a showmaster for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? did not give up. Meredith Vieira hosted the Today Show as co-host of Matt Lauer from September 13, 2006 to June 8, 2011.
Job and family
Vieira switched to 60 Minutes in 1989 after giving birth to her first child . Don Hewitt , producer of 60 Minutes , allowed her to work part-time for two seasons so that she could better take care of her child. After that, she should work full-time again. After two years, however, Vieira became pregnant again and asked to continue working part-time, but Hewitt refused and hired someone full-time. Their departure and the circumstances that led to it hit the headlines and sparked a nationwide discussion about the compatibility of family and work. She turned down an offer to co-host the Early Show on CBS or host Good Morning America on ABC.
Vieira described the circumstances and experiences in Elsa Walsh's book Divided Lives: The Public and Private Struggles of Three American Women .
