Loona ( 이달 의 소녀 , stylized spelling LOOΠΔ ) is a South Korean girl group founded by Blockberry Creative.

The introduction of the members lasted from October 2016 to March 2018. Either a new member or a sub-unit was introduced and a single, a single album or an EP was released on a monthly basis . The group officially debuted on August 20, 2018 with the single Hi High .

The official fan club name of Loona is "Orbit".

Formation of the group

LOOΠΔ 1/3

On September 26, 2016, Blockberry posted Creative Teaser photos of HeeJin, the first member of Loona. HeeJin released their single ViVid on October 8th along with the single album HeeJin . Blockberry Creative announced that from October 2016 onwards, a new member will be introduced at the beginning of each new month. By January 2017, three more members of the group were revealed in this way: HyunJin, HaSeul and YeoJin, who each released a single and a single album. In February ViVi was introduced as the fifth member. ViVi did not release a single this month, but was introduced together with HeSeul, HeeJin and HyunJin as a member of LOOΠΔ 1/3 , the first sub-unit of Loona. LOOΠΔ 1/3 released the mini album Love & Live on March 13th together with the single of the same name. ViVi released their solo single Everyday I Love You on April 17th.

LOOΠΔ Odd Eye Circle

In the following months, Kim Lip, JinSoul and Choerry were introduced and each released their single. At the end of August, the first teasers for Loona's second sub-unit LOOΠΔ Odd Eye Circle were published. LOOΠΔ Odd Eye Circle consists of the members Kim Lip, Jin Soul and Choerry and released the EP Mix & Match on September 21st together with the single GirlFront . Also in September, HeeJin, HyunJin and HaSeul sang for the JTBC casting show "Mixnine". In Mixnine, YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun-suk visited various agencies all over South Korea together with other artists to find trainees or idols who would compete against each other in the show. The aim was to form a nine-member boy and girl group. Both groups competed against each other in the final in order to face the audience voting. Only one of the groups was supposed to officially debut. HyunJin was eliminated in 15th place in the final, while HeeJin made it into the last 9.

Yves, Chuu and Go Won were featured from November 2017 to January 2018 and each released their single. In March 2018, Olivia Hye, the last member of the group, was introduced. In May Loona's third sub-unit LOOΠΔ yyxy released the EP Beauty & the Beat together with the single love4eva. For love4eva the group worked with the Canadian singer Grimes .

2018 – today: Debut with Hi High and Butterfly

On August 7, 2018, Loona released favOriTe, the first single as a complete group. After the single was released, Loona gave her debut concert "LOONAbirth" in Seoul on August 19th and finally made her official debut on August 20th with the EP [+ +] and the single Hi High .

On February 19, 2019 the single Butterfly was released together with the EP [XX] .
