Loprazolam is a benzodiazepine of medium duration of action. Its mono mesilate is used . The indications, contraindications and interactions correspond to those of all benzodiazepines. Psychological and physical dependence can develop after only a short period of use. Monopreparations include Dormonoct, Havlane, Sonin, Somnovit (in various forms up to 2 mg). Loprazolam is mainly used as a hypnotic but also as a sedative . In Germany, the last preparation with loprazolam (Sonin) was withdrawn from the market in January 2006.

The dose of loprazolam for insomnia is usually 1 mg, but it can be increased to 2 mg if necessary.

The side effects are basically the same as for other benzodiazepines. The most common occurrences with loprazolam are:

Legal status

Loprazolam was included in Appendix III of the Narcotics Act (BtMG) (marketable and prescription narcotics) in the Federal Republic of Germany due to its listing . This does not apply to preparations that contain up to 2.5 mg of loprazolam per divided form without any other substance from Annexes I – III.
