The Lord Baden Powell (also known as the Täggelibock ) is a ship belonging to the Swiss Scout Movement on Lake Brienz . The owner is the Roverschiff Lord Baden Powell association.
history
The ship, built in 1909, was used until 1959 under the name Adler on Lake Brienz as a Ledischiff for loads of all kinds, for example for transporting gravel and rafting wood. The ship burned out in 1946, after which a new two-cylinder Benz diesel engine from 1926 was installed.
After ceasing to operate due to unprofitability, it sank in the port of Bönigen in 1963 . In the autumn of the same year, the Unspunne scouting department from Interlaken bought the ship for 300 francs, salvaged it and transferred it to today's berth Sendli near Interlaken. There the ship was repaired by the boy scouts. On 25 August 1968 was by Freddy Quinn on the name of Lord Baden Powell baptized. 40 journalists from Switzerland and Germany reported on the event, and Swiss television also broadcast a report. On that day, "the Taggelibock was Switzerland's most famous ship on Lake Brienz." The headline in Schweizer Illustrierte : "Taggelibock ahoy!"
Today it operates as the «Swiss Roverschiff » on Lake Brienz. The ship was given the name Täggelibock (High German for about Tucker-Bock ) because of the low-speed running noise (400 rpm) of its engine.
Trivia
A 1:50 scale model of the ship was built at the Boot Club Thun (MBCT) model.
