Lorenz Konzett

Lorenz Emil Konzett (born February 4, 1907 in Bludenz ; † April 23, 1983 in Feldkirch ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and director of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce. From 1964 to 1969 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

After five years of elementary school in Bludenz, Konzett attended the Bludenz Citizens' School for a year and in 1919 switched to the Feldkirch grammar school, where he graduated from high school in 1927. He then studied from 1927 to 1932 law at the Universities of Graz , Vienna and Innsbruck and received his doctorate on 13 February 1932, the University of Innsbruck for Dr. jur.

From 1930 on, Konzett was employed as secretary of the Christian-Social People's Association for Vorarlberg, between 1932 and 1933 he worked as an editor for the “Vorarlberger Volksblatt” and the “Vorarlberger Landesstimmen”. In May 1933 he was promoted to head of the Christian press center in Vienna and in May 1934 changed to the post of managing director of the “Vaterländische Front” in Bregenz. From June 1935, Konzett worked as the secretary of the Vorarlberg state trade association, and at the same time he was the editor of the “Vorarlberger Gewerbe” registry gazette. He was removed from both posts after the National Socialists came to power. As a result, he was unemployed for a long time and worked at short notice for the Caritas Association Feldkirch and the Apostolic Administration in Innsbruck. In February 1940 he became head of the legal and finance department of VOGEWOSI , after which he was employed from January 1942 to March 1943 as in-house counsel for the Association of Danube Country Housing Companies in Vienna. He was drafted into military service in World War II in March 1943, became an American prisoner of war in September 1944 and did not return from this until March 1946. After his return from the war, he worked from 1946 to 1972 as director of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce.

Politics and functions

Konzett was active in the Cartell Association in the interwar period and was a member of the CV secondary school association "Clunia", member of the ÖCV association " Carolina Graz " and member of the ÖCV association "Alpenland Vienna". Furthermore, from 1930 he became involved as the state secretary of the Christian-Social People's Association and was head of the children's holiday campaign from 1934 to 1937. After the “Anschluss” he was imprisoned in Bregenz from March 12 to April 30, 1938 for political reasons.

After the Second World War, Konzett joined the newly founded People's Party and the Economic Association. He was active in local politics from 1948 to 1960 as a member of the Feldkirch city council and from 1948 to 1950 and from 1956 to 1960 a member of the city council, first being city councilor for construction and public utilities and later city councilor for finances. He was also chairman of the administrative board of Feldkircher Stadtwerke. At the state level, he represented the Austrian People's Party as a member of the Feldkirch constituency from October 29, 1964 to October 28, 1969 in the Vorarlberg state parliament.

Within the party, Konzett was a member of the state party leadership and the state party council of the ÖVP Vorarlberg as well as a member of the state presidency and the state management of the Vorarlberg Economic Association. He was also press officer for the Vorarlberg Economic Association. He was also active as chairman of the old gentlemen's state association of the CV, chairman of the non-profit housing cooperative Feldkirch and vice-president and president of the Vorarlberg scouts.

Private

Lorenz Konzett was born as the son of the postman Josef Konzett (1874–1908). His mother was Kreszentia Konzett, née Winkler. On October 22, 1936, he married Edith Deromedis, who came from Knittelfeld, and was the father of two daughters and a son.
