Lorenz Wetter (born September 4, 1726 in Herisau ; † March 6, 1793 in Trogen ; legal resident in Herisau) was a Swiss textile entrepreneur, member of the Small Council , delegate of the daily statute and mayor from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Lorenz Wetter was a son of Adrian Wetter . In 1763 he married Kunigunde Landolt, daughter of Johann Kaspar Landolt, city doctor in Zurich . He completed an apprenticeship as a textile merchant in France and England and took over his father's linen trade. In 1759 he was a councilor and salt factor. From 1766 to 1767 he held the office of the state ensign and from 1767 to 1772 that of the state governor. From 1769 to 1792 he was delegate to the Diet 27 times. From 1772 to 1793 he served as Landammann. In 1770, Wetter obtained a quantum of graces for grain with Governor Johann Jakob Zuberbühler in southern Germany . In 1777 in Solothurn he took part in the evocation of the pay alliance with France. In 1775 he became president and well-known patron of the library commission in Herisau. Fascinated by the French way of life, Wetter corresponded in French and dressed accordingly. In the patriarchal spirit, he referred to the rural community as ma grandissime famille patriotique .
