Lothar Bily

Lothar Bily SDB (born December 22, 1952 in Regensburg ) is a German Salesian of Don Bosco , a Roman Catholic clergyman and theologian, and a university professor .

Life

Bily earned a diploma in theology at the University of Regensburg and then entered the novitiate of the Salesians of Don Bosco in 1977 . He made the first religious professorship on August 15, 1978 and moved to the Benediktbeuern monastery . In addition to studying social pedagogy at KSFH in Benediktbeuern , he worked at the Benediktbeuern Action Center. After completing his intermediate diploma , Bily moved to the University of Augsburg for a doctorate as a research assistant and university pastor . On July 1, 1984, Bily was ordained a priest in Benediktbeuern. In 1989 the doctorate to Dr. theol. with the work The Religion in Max Weber's Thought .

In 1989 Bily began teaching at the Philosophical-Theological University of Benediktbeuern . From 2002 he held the chair for fundamental theology , and from 2005 to 2013 rector of the university.

Research priorities

Bily deals, among other things, with Christianity under the conditions of modernity and postmodernism . He has dealt critically with esotericism and newer religious trends. Bily also deals with the relationship between Christianity and other religions.

Bily wrote numerous articles in the Biographisch-Bibliographisches Kirchenlexikon (BBKL).
