Lothar Green

Lothar Green (born August 28, 1908 , † June 2, 1981 ) was a German football referee .

Life

Green came from Dresden and began playing soccer in the boys' team at Dresdner SC in 1920 . In 1928 he moved to Limbach in Saxony (today Limbach-Oberfrohna ) and joined the 1st Limbacher SC 09 . In 1933 he completed a referee course and then headed games in the youth field.

Due to injury, he ended his active football career in 1940 and mainly took over referee duties. His first major referee assignment in the men's area took place in 1941 in the cup game of the two Gauligists Chemnitzer BC and Planitzer SC . In the following years (1941 and 1945) he led matches of the Gauliga Sachsen and from 1949 to 1959 a total of 121 games in the GDR Oberliga as well as a B international match on September 14, 1958 between Hungary and Poland (0: 2). Another highlight of his career was his assignment as assistant referee ( linesman ) together with Fritz Köpcke at the opening game of the Leipzig Central Stadium on August 4, 1956 between SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt and Honved Budapest . The match was directed by the international referee Leo Horn Netherlands in front of 100,000 spectators . From 1960, Green took on the role of referee observer .

In 1967 he was awarded the badge of honor of the German Football Association in gold.
