Lotte Blattl-Hörburger (born August 11, 1933 in Innsbruck ) is a former Austrian ski racer . In the 1950s, she achieved several victories and numerous podium places in international races, became Austrian champion in slalom and combined in 1957 and took part in two world championships .

Career

Blattl came to the ski club in her hometown Saalfelden at the age of 14 . After some successes in junior competitions, she achieved the first top positions in international races in the winter of 1952/53, including a third place in the slalom of the Hahnenkamm races in Kitzbühel , whereupon she was accepted into the A-squad of the Austrian Ski Association in the same year . In the 1953/54 season she achieved a second place in the slalom of Vall de Núria and two third places in the giant slalom of Kitzbühel and in the descent of the Arlberg-Kandahar races in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . In the giant slalom, she was also used at the 1954 World Championships in Åre , where, however, after a fall, she committed a peat error and was disqualified.

Blattl made his breakthrough to the top of the world in the 1954/55 season. After victories in the giant slalom of the SDS races in Grindelwald and in the downhill, the giant slalom and the combination of Popka Savka as well as numerous podium places, including the slalom of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains , each in the slalom and combination of Chamonix and Grindelwald and in the combination of Kitzbühel, she was awarded the Ski d'Or ( Golden Ski ) as the best female racer of the winter . At the beginning of the next winter, however, she suffered a broken right ankle while training in Grindelwald on January 4, 1956 and therefore had to pause the rest of the season, which is why she also missed the 1956 Olympic Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo.

In the winter of 1956/57, Blattl found his way back to the top and celebrated victories in the night slalom in Bad Wiessee on January 30, 1957 and in the slalom as well as in the combination of the Arlberg-Kandahar races in Chamonix on March 9, 1957.
Further podium places in slalom (2nd place) and combination (3rd place) from Kitzbühel, where she also finished fourth in the downhill at the beginning, 2nd place on January 31st in the slalom from Garmisch-Partenkirchen at the »11. Garmisch Wintersportwoche «and on the Gornergrat downhill run in Zermatt once again made her one of the best ski racers of the season. In addition, she won the slalom and the combination at the Austrian Championships in Schruns in 1957 and was second in the opening race, the giant slalom. In the 1957/58 season, Blattl could no longer match the results of previous years. Her best results were fifth in the downhill and seventh in the combination of Grindelwald. Nevertheless, she took part in the 1958 World Championships in Bad Gastein , where she first finished 33rd in the slalom and three days later 15th in the downhill; in the giant slalom on February 8th she was with start no. 10 was drawn, but had to do without due to illness ( Kathi Hörl was nominated for her ). Blattl ended her career after the winter.
