Louis-Barthélémy Pradher (born December 16, 1782 in Paris , † October 19, 1843 in Gray (Haute-Saône) ) was a French composer, pianist and music teacher.

Life

Louis-Barthélémy Pradher was the son of a violinist of the Prince de Condé, he received his first music lessons from his father and was a student of Louis Gobert at the École royale de Musique. After their closure at the beginning of the revolution, he received further instruction from Henri de Montgeroult. From 1797 he took lessons at the Paris Conservatory , piano with Gobert and harmony with Henri Montan Berton , in 1798 he completed his training. In the meantime he married Élisabeth-Charlotte, daughter of the composer François-André Danican Philidor . After 1798 he took composition lessons with Étienne-Nicolas Méhul. 1802 he took over the piano class of Louis Emmanuel Jadin at the Paris Conservatory and from 1803 he was titular professor in succession to François-Adrien Boieldieu , he remained in this position until his retirement in 1828. To his students included François-Joseph Fétis , as well as the brothers Jacques-Simon Herz and Henri Herz .

He was a member of the court orchestra and the chamber music of King Louis XVIII. and court pianist to King Charles X and Maître de musique des enfants du roi . He was married to the opera singer Félicité More for the second time and in 1826 became a knight of the Légion-d'Honneur .

Pradher composed several operas-comiques, which had only moderate success, they quickly fell off the repertoire because of the poor libretti. Above all, he made a name for himself with his brilliant piano music, which shows virtuoso skills. These include 13 collections of romances, numerous piano sonatas and several concerts for piano and orchestra.
