Général Louis-Michel Letort de Lorville (born August 28, 1773 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye , † June 16, 1815 in Charleroi ) was an officer in the French Revolutionary Army and the Napoleonic Army , most recently as Général de division.

Letort came in 1791 as a volunteer in the French revolutionary army and fought in 1792 in the Battle of Jemappes and 1793 in the Battle of Neerwinden .

He was wounded in the Italian campaign in 1799, as well as in the battle of Jena and Auerstedt . In Spain he distinguished himself from Burgos and was raised on September 9, 1810 by Napoleon to "Baron de l'Empire". Letort took part in the Russian campaign in 1812 and distinguished himself again in the battle of Malojaroslavets . On January 30, 1813, he was promoted to Général de brigade .

In the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig he commanded the 2nd Cavalry Brigade of the 3rd Division of the Guard Cavalry . He was wounded again, but remained on duty and also took part in the Battle of Hanau . During the winter campaign of 1814 he distinguished himself in the battle of Montmirail and was promoted to Général de division the next day . On March 19, 1814, he succeeded in capturing a pontoon train of the Bohemian Army on the Seine .

During the campaign to Belgium he commanded the regiment of the Dragons de la Garde impériale of the Imperial Guard , as the actual commander, Général de division Philippe-Antoine d'Ornano , had not taken up his post for health reasons. On June 15, Napoleon ordered him to pursue fleeing infantry from General Zieten's first Prussian corps with the four squadrons of his personal bodyguard . Letort did the job successfully and with flying colors in the battle at Gilly, but was fatally wounded and died the next day in Charleroi .
