Eduardo Saverin (2012)

Eduardo Luiz Saverin (born March 19, 1982 in São Paulo , Brazil ) is one of the founders of Facebook alongside Mark Zuckerberg , Dustin Moskovitz , Christopher Hughes and Andrew McCollum . In 2006 he graduated from Harvard University with a degree in economics . He has lived in Singapore since 2009 .

Life

Saverin was born in Brazil and moved to Miami , Florida , United States with his wealthy Jewish family in the mid-1990s . During his senior year at Harvard University, he co-founded Facebook. The following summer he worked for Facebook's finance department. However, due to disagreements with Zuckerberg, he distanced himself from the fast-growing company in Silicon Valley . After investors, most notably PayPal co- founder Peter Thiel , took control of the company's financial needs and supported Zuckerberg as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Saverin lost his hold on Facebook.

His departure from Facebook was the subject of legal proceedings that ended in a settlement in which Saverin was awarded a severance payment of an unknown amount. He was later granted the right to have his name listed alongside those of the other founders.

Saverin gave up his US citizenship and naturalized in Singapore ahead of Facebook's planned IPO on May 18, 2012 . The reason he said was that it would be more practical to be Singaporean as he would like to live there until further notice. By giving up his US citizenship and adopting Singaporean citizenship, Saverin will save a huge amount in taxes. Saverin denies that it was his concern. Saverin's stake in Facebook is currently 6.3 percent, which corresponds to a value of several billion US dollars . He is played by Andrew Garfield in the film The Social Network .
