Louis Alexandre Cabié (born May 25, 1854 in Dol-de-Bretagne , Département Ille-et-Vilaine , † February 26, 1939 in Bordeaux ) was a French painter who mainly devoted himself to landscape painting .

Life

He was a student of Henri Harpignies and later approached the École naturaliste de Port-Berteau , a school of open-air painting , whose members temporarily included Gustave Courbet and Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot . From 1887 he was represented several times in the Salon des Artistes Français. The recognition he received is reflected in his appointment as a Knight of the Legion of Honor . He spent large parts of his life in the Bordelais . There is a street named after him in Bordeaux and he is buried there. Francois Max Bugnicourt is one of his students .

His style of rendering landscapes developed from late romantic forms to a post-impressionist style of design that is characteristic of his late creative years.

Cabié's works can mainly be found in the Musée des beaux-arts in Bordeaux , but are also represented in the art museums of Angers , Chambéry , Alençon and other French cities.
