Louis Carlen

Louis Carlen (born January 17, 1929 in Brig ) is a retired Swiss lawyer , university professor and politician .

Life

Louis Carlen studied after graduating from high school in 1950 at the Classical High School at College Brig Law at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) , where he in 1955 with a dissertation on the law of the land Cardinal ski listener to Dr. iur. received his doctorate . A history degree took him to Bern , Lausanne and Paris ; he did research in the Vatican Archives . In 1956 he passed his state examination. In 1957 he opened a notary and law firm.

In 1967 he became ao. Professor and in 1969 full professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Innsbruck . From 1971 to 1993 he was a full professor and full professor for legal history, canon law and state church law at the University of Friborg / Switzerland.

From 1956 to 1968 he was a member of the city government of Brig and from 1961 to 1973 he was a Christian-Social Councilor of the Canton of Valais.

Act

In 1973 he was the founding president of the International Society for Legal Folklore . In 1963 he was the initiator of the writings "Church history in the Stockalper archive in Brig". He was honored with the Award of the City Brig (1970), the Culture Prize of the Upper Valais (1985), the Upper Valais Culture Award of the rotting federal and Rünzi Prize (1978). In 1979 he became an honorary citizen of Brig.

Carlen is known for his extensive research on legal history , legal folklore and canon law . He is the author of over 1000 scientific articles and papers. He has been a corresponding member of the philosophical-historical class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 1979 .

Louis Carlen is involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . In 1983 he was made a knight by Cardinal Grand Master Maximilien de Fürstenberg and invested in the Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Johannes Vonderach , Bishop of Chur and Grand Prior of the Order of Knights in Switzerland . In 1991 he was appointed officer of the Papal Laity Order.
