Louis Godin

Louis Godin (born February 28, 1704 in Paris , † September 11, 1760 in Cádiz ) was a French astronomer .

Together with Charles Marie de La Condamine and Pierre Bouguer, Godin took part in the Peru Expedition in 1735 to determine the length of a meridian arc near the equator (see degree measurement ). He was a member of the Académie des Sciences and since 1752 a foreign member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences . In 1735 he was accepted as a member ( fellow ) in the Royal Society .

His nephew was the cartographer Jean Godin des Odonais (1713–1792).

The moon crater Godin and the asteroid (12715) Godin are named after him.
