Louis Le Barbenchon

Louis Le Barbenchon (born February 23, 1911 in Paris , France , † July 1980 in France) was a French film architect .

Live and act

Not much is known about Le Barbenchon's origins and his early years. Born in Paris, he received his artistic training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and began working as a film architect for the first time in the mid-1930s. Initially, Louis Le Barbenchon cooperated with his colleague Roland Quignon before the Second World War and the accompanying occupation of France interrupted his cinematic activity for five years.

After 1945, Le Barbenchon, the sole chief architect, designed the sets for a wealth of less ambitious entertainment films by experienced directors such as Raoul André , Georges Lautner , Philippe Labro , Ernst Neubach , Henri Decoin , Robert Vernay and Sergio Gobbi . It was only seldom possible for him to work with artistically respected filmmakers such as Georges Franju , Sacha Guitry or Marcel Carné . In 1974 his cinema activity ended.
