Louis Liagre

Louis Liagre (born September 5, 1883 in Tourcoing , † August 10, 1955 in La Rochelle ) was a French Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of La Rochelle .

Life

He was ordained a priest on June 5, 1909 .

On March 7, 1938, he was appointed Bishop of La Rochelle. He received his episcopal consecration on May 4, 1938, the Bishop of Lille , Cardinal Achille Liénart ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Bordeaux , Maurice Feltin , and the Bishop of Arras , Henri-Edouard Dutoit .

Act

Louis Liagre was a staunch member of Action Catholique . In his home diocese of Lille , he was a co-founder of the Christian youth workers JOCF ( Jeunesse ouvrière chrétienne de France ) in northern France. In 1934 he was their national treasurer ( French aumônier national ). In the episcopate he was still anxious to spread Catholic action. He is also considered a pioneer among the bishops for the reforms of the Second Vatican Council . From 1951, however, he was severely restricted in his work due to progressive illness.
