Louis Massonneau (born January 10, 1766 in Kassel , † October 4, 1848 in Ludwigslust ) was a German violinist , composer and concertmaster of French descent.

Life

Louis Massonneau was the son of a French master chef . After stops in Göttingen , Frankfurt am Main , Altona and Dessau , he came to Ludwigslust in 1803 and became concertmaster there in 1812 .

For some time now, the work of Louis Massonneau has also been rediscovered in the concert hall. On the occasion of the publication of chamber music works in the music publisher Edtion Massonneau, the specialist press described his music as "elegant, witty and subtle", praised the "fabulous instrumentation" and spoke of "unique brilliance and musical density" and "real catchy tune".

Among his instrumental works, the chamber music (string quartets op.11, duos for violin and cello, op.9, airs variés for violin and viola / cello and oboe quartets) and three symphonies are worth mentioning, especially the Third Symphony opus 5 (La tempête et le calme , 1794).
