Louis R. Loeffler

Louis Robert Loeffler (born February 24, 1897 in New York , † April 22, 1972 in Hollywood , Los Angeles ) was an American film editor .

Life

Loeffler began his career in film editing in 1927 at Fox Film Corporation , which merged with 20th Century Pictures to form 20th Century Fox in 1935 , where Loeffler was under contract until the 1950s. While it was used exclusively in B-films in the 1930s , it was increasingly used in large-scale productions in the 1940s. He worked particularly often with director Otto Preminger , including for the classic films Laura (1944), Faustrecht der Großstadt (1950), Fluß ohne Wiederkehr (1954), Carmen Jones (1954), The Man with the Golden Arm (1955) and Exodus (1960).

For the two Preminger films Anatomy of a Murder (1959) and The Cardinal (1963) Loeffler received a nomination for an Oscar in the category Best Editing . He died in Hollywood in 1972 at the age of 75 and was buried in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles.
