Louise Currey (born McPaul ; born January 24, 1969 in Port Kembla , New South Wales ) is a former Australian javelin thrower .

She started out as a heptathlete and only focused on the javelin as an adult.

At the World Athletics Championships in 1991 she was sixth and eleventh at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

In 1994 she won gold at the Commonwealth Games in Victoria , but retired the following year at the World Cup in Gothenburg in qualification.

In 1996 she celebrated her greatest success by winning the silver medal at the Atlanta Olympics . With 65.54 m she only had to admit defeat to the Finn Heli Rantanen (67.94 m).

Two years later she defended her title at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur and finished fifth at the 1999 World Cup in Seville.

For the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, she was considered one of the hosts' great hopes for a medal until she sustained a serious knee injury in advance. Currey started anyway, but dropped out in qualifying and then ended her sporting career.

In 1990, 1991, 1993 and 1998 she became Australian champion.

Louise Currey is 1.73 m tall and weighed 64 kg at competition times. She is married to fellow javelin thrower Andrew Currey .
