Louise Currie

Louise Currie (actually Louise Gunter ; born April 7, 1913 in Oklahoma City , Oklahoma - † September 8, 2013 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American actress in the 1940s and 1950s. Her work includes more than 40 film productions. Currie was the last living actress from Citizen Kane .

Life

Louise Currie was born the daughter of the banker Charles W. Gunter and his wife Louise Gunter, whose maiden name Currie she later used as a stage name. After attending a girls' school in Washington, DC , Currie attended Sarah Lawrence College , where she first discovered her interest in acting. Currie therefore moved to Hollywood and took lessons there at Max Reinhardt's drama school .

Through the actress and talent agent Sue Carol , she received her first roles in Monogram Pictures and Columbia Pictures from 1940 , mostly in B-movies and serials as well as in supporting roles in larger film productions that were not mentioned in the credits. In 1941, Currie starred as Betty Wallace in the Serial Adventures of Captain Marvel . In the same year was followed by a small role as a reporter in the drama Citizen Kane by Orson Welles . Currie was the last surviving actress from this film at the time of her death.

In the following years Louise Currie was seen in larger roles in films such as Voodoo Man (1944) and Sensations for Millions (also 1944) as well as in numerous supporting and extras roles not mentioned in the credits. In addition to a total of more than 40 film appearances, Currie also worked as a guest actress in several television series in the 1950s. In 1956 she ended her acting career.

Currie was married three times and had two children. She last married Grover Asmus in 2002, when he was almost 90 years old, and the marriage lasted until his death the following year. Currie appeared at film events in old age, including in May and August 2010 at performances of the series Adventures of Captain Marvel at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .

In April 2013 Louise Currie celebrated her 100th birthday. She died five months later on September 8, 2013 in Santa Monica.
