Low Spirit Recordings was a Berlin record label in the field of electronic dance music .

history

Low Spirit Recordings GmbH was founded in 1985 by Maximilian Lenz ( WestBam ), Fabian Lenz (DJ Dick), Klaus Jankuhn , Sandra Molzahn and William Röttger , who are also known as "co-founders of the techno scene".

Low Spirit's first release was WestBam's “17 - This Is Not a Boris Becker Song”, which reached number one on the Berlin dance charts. The first chart success was achieved in 1989 with Westbams piece "... and Party". Some of Low Spirit's releases are among the most commercially successful in the techno world . For example, “Sonic Empire” by the Members of Mayday was number one in the German single charts, and Marusha's cover version of “ Somewhere Over the Rainbow ” was the sixth best-selling single of 1994. Looking back on this chart success, WestBam said: “Techno had never done that before , it has divided, polarized and excited society. "( Westbam ) According to the trade magazine Raveline , the label has" German techno history "( Raveline ) with releases such as" Celebration Generation "," Somewhere Over the Rainbow "or" Sonic Empire " written.

With the increasing popularity of electronic music, several sub-labels have emerged with a specialized focus on the respective published sound. These included the White Label Records (1991), BUG (1991), Amtrax (1995) and Loud & Slow (1997) labels . The rave label Fire Records , on which Ravers Nature and Hardsequencer , among others , released and achieved several chart successes, achieved a high level of awareness .

Low Spirit was with the Love Parade tour operators Loveparade GmbH and found to be the owner of the techno event Mayday . However, both have been sold in recent years. In August 2006, Beat Bandit's last release, “Below Bohemia”, appeared on Low Spirit, after which the active label operation was discontinued. In 2007 all Low Spirit records were distributed by Kontor Records .
