Marc de Clarq , real name Markus Siewert (* 1967 in Suhl ) is a German musician.

He began his musical career in the boys' choir of the Suhl Philharmonic. At the age of 16 he wrote his first own songs and received a sound vocal training. In 1985 he won second place as the youngest participant at the youth festival Goldener Rathausmann (festival) in Dresden ( advancement award of the general management of the committee for entertainment arts ) for the interpretation of his own songs. Gisela Steineckert , the chairwoman of the committee, and Frank Schöbel were particularly strong in this regard. Gisela Steineckert personally presented the award at the closing gala.

In Berlin, Marc de Clarq then took up external singing studies at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music and received lessons at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin . Arnold Fritzsch Kreis (band) became its first producer. The youth television of the GDR (later Elf 99 ) produced two video clips, Lady Snob and Ich hab noch nie , which were hardly inferior to western music videos in terms of production effort. I have never been banned after the first broadcast and Lady Snob is still broadcast today when it comes to the music of the 1980s in the GDR ( I want fun ... NDR ) From 1987 to 1989 he was the singer of the pop project Speed and found their way into the radio hit parades of the GDR with songs like Sunshine on the Rocks and Nightfire . Appearances on GDR television were not uncommon from then on.

Despite the above-mentioned success, his displeasure against the GDR, against the system, against the country's arbitrary cultural policy and against the suppression of freedom of expression began to grow. This was followed in 1988 by the application for expatriation , which was granted on November 9, 1989 , on the eve of the fall of the Berlin Wall . He later wrote the book IM Techno about his time and experiences as an artist in the GDR .

In West Berlin there was a collaboration with the record label Hansa Records , but the first publications were not made until 1994 with DIVISION Rec. With the project DJ MO vs. Marc de Clarq ( Low Spirit / Sony BMG ) achieved first placements in club and dance charts. On the Vandit Records (Paul van Dyk) label, too , he made it into the German dance charts (six weeks in the Top 20) with the MMdC project . Also as a live act he is on stage with DJs like Marusha , Westbam or Paul van Dyk .

In the book Berlin Technology by Nico Mesterharm, Marc de Clarq is described as a “man from the very beginning” in the Berlin techno and music scene in the 1990s.

Since 2006 Marc de Clarq has been working mainly as a producer in the pop area for the next generation. In 2007 he founded the Sample Temple Records label with Arne Northern . He writes u. a. also trailer music for television (e.g. Pro7 - Sat.1 ) ( e.g. superzoom or pinpoint landing )

Under his real name Markus Siewert he published two books ( IM Techno and Die Reise nach Quantox ). The book IM Techno received the rating of "historico-political valuable" from the Free University of Berlin , theses are written about it and Marc de Clarq is interviewed several times as a witness about his experiences as a musician in the GDR.
