Lubin Baugin (* around 1610 in Pithiviers , Loiret department , Center-Val de Loire region ; † July 11, 1663 in Paris ) was a French painter of the Baroque period. He is best known for his still lifes .

biography

Baugin was accepted into the Saint-Germain-des-Prés company as a master of painting in 1629 , but could not get any significant commissions. He lived in Rome from 1632 to 1641 , where he married and had two children.

After returning to Paris he painted many pictures with a religious content. From 1643 Baugin received a number of larger orders, including a. for the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral . Baugin married again in 1645 after the death of the first wife, and a third time in 1654 after the second wife had died.

From 1647 to 1649 he worked in the Chapelle de la Congrégation des Nobles de Notre-Dame on Rue Saint-Antoine . He later worked in two churches in Dourdan south of Paris (now in the Essonne department ). In 1651 he was accepted into the newly founded Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture and in 1655 excluded due to frequent absence. In the years 1660 to 1661 he was commissioned to work for two churches in Pithiviers.

Baugin died in Paris in 1663 and was buried in the Saint-Sulpice church .

Owned by the Louvre in Paris , the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Orléans , the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rennes , the Musée Magnin in Dijon , the Palazzo Spada in Rome, the National Gallery in London, the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and the Snite Museum of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana .
