Lucas Chanavat (born December 17, 1994 in Le Grand-Bornand ) is a French cross-country skier .

Career

Chanavat took part in U18 and U20 races in the Alpine Cup from 2011 to 2015 . He finished third in the U20 overall ranking in the 2013/14 season . At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2014 in Val di Fiemme , he took 13th place in the sprint. In January 2015, he came in sixth place in the sprint and fourth place in the relay at the Winter Universiade in Štrbské Pleso . He ran his first World Cup race in December 2015 in Davos , which he finished in 16th place in the sprint and thus also got his first World Cup points. In February 2016 he came in 16th place again in the sprint in Stockholm . At the U23 World Ski Championships in 2016 in Râşnov , he won the gold medal in the sprint. In the 2016/17 season he finished in the top ten five times in the World Cup singles. In January 2017 he took third place in the sprint in the Alpencup in Planica . The following month he achieved his first podium finish in the World Cup with second place together with Baptiste Gros in the team sprint in Pyeongchang . At the season highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , he took 14th place in the sprint and 11th place together with Richard Jouve in the team sprint. At the end of the season he came in 51st place at the World Cup final in Québec and reached 27th place in the overall World Cup, eighth place in the Sprint World Cup and third place in the U23 World Cup. In the 2017/18 season he made it into the top ten five times at sprint world cups. He achieved third place in Lenzerheide , Dresden and Falun and second in Seefeld in Tyrol . At the season highlight, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, he finished 34th in the sprint. He finished the season in 24th place in the overall World Cup and third in the Sprint World Cup.

In the 2018/19 season, Chanavat achieved five top ten placements, including third place in the sprints in Toblach and Cogne , 22nd place in the overall World Cup and sixth place in the Sprint World Cup. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tirol , he was sixth in the sprint and fifth together with Richard Jouve in the team sprint. After finishing 77th in the Ruka Triple at the beginning of the 2019/20 season, he took second place in the sprint in Davos and won his first World Cup victories in the sprint races in Planica and Dresden . In addition, he won the team sprint in Dresden together with Renaud Jay and reached 22nd place in the overall World Cup and fifth place in the Sprint World Cup at the end of the season.
