Ludger Syré

Ludger Syré (born July 26, 1953 in Münster ) is a German librarian and historian . From 1987 to 2020 he worked as a specialist at the Badische Landesbibliothek , where he was in charge of both digitization and the Baden-Württemberg state bibliography .

Life

Syré studied history and German literature in Freiburg im Breisgau , Munich and Tübingen from 1972 to 1978 . He then received his doctorate at the Institute for Eastern European History at the University of Tübingen and completed his legal clerkship for academic library services in Tübingen and Cologne from 1983 to 1985 .

During his service at the Badische Landesbibliothek, he played a key role in setting up the digitization workshop. Today the Badische Landesbibliothek is one of the most important digitization centers in the German southwest.

For more than 30 years he was chairman of the regional bibliography working group in the German Library Association. V. , was responsible for the coordination of the education at the Badische Landesbibliothek for a long time and was responsible for the procurement of regionally relevant titles for the area of ​​the regional bibliography.

Syré is also a lecturer at the Chair for Contemporary History at the Institute for History at the University of Mannheim and at the House of Competence at KIT Karlsruhe .

His academic and journalistic focus is on the history of National Socialism in Baden, the history of Russia and the Soviet Union, as well as the history of libraries and the German library system . Together with Jürgen Seefeldt, Ludger Syré published the portals to the past and future - libraries in Germany for the first time in 2003 . The book has seen several new editions and has been translated into several languages.
