Ludolf von Pannewitz

Ludolph von Pannewitz (* 1652 on Kahren near Cottbus ; † July 18, 1719 ibid) was a Prussian lieutenant general , chief of the "Pannewitz on Horses Regiment" named after him and heir to Kahren.

Life

origin

Pannewitz was the son of the Brandenburg captain as well as state elder and director of the Cottbus district Christian von Pannewitz (* 1624 - December 21, 1679 in Kahren) and his wife Hedwig Sophia von Wulfen (* 1624 in Tempelberg; † January 28, 1707 in Kahren) from the Temple Mount house. Lieutenant General Anton von Pannewitz was his brother.

Military career

Pannewitz joined the Brandenburg army under Elector Friedrich Wilhelm in 1670 and fought against the French and Swedes between 1672 and 1679. In 1675 he became a lieutenant and in 1683 a captain of the life guard . In 1686 he was at the siege of Ofen , where he lost an eye. For his bravery there he was promoted to major . On December 11, 1689 he became lieutenant colonel and on January 12, 1694 colonel in the dragoon regiment "Margrave Albrecht" . From 1693 to 1695 he fought again against the Ottomans. During the War of the Spanish Succession , he fought in the United Netherlands and Italy from 1701 . There he took part in the battle of Cassano and Turin .

On January 9, 1709 he was appointed major general and on January 29, 1712 he was appointed chief of the "Wittgenstein" dragoon regiment . On May 27, 1715 he was appointed lieutenant general.

During the Pomeranian Campaign , his dragoon regiment was used to capture Usedom . It held up so well that King Friedrich Wilhelm elevated it to a "regiment on horseback". But on November 6, 1715 he said goodbye and died in 1719 on his Kahren estate.

family

Pannewitz was not married, but was in a relationship with a Christine von Hagen. With her he had two daughters who were legitimized on July 18, 1719.
