Ludwig Andreas Buchner (born July 23, 1813 in Munich ; died October 23, 1897 in Munich) was a German doctor and pharmacologist .

biography

Ludwig Andreas Buchner was the son of Johann Andreas Buchner , who also became known as a pharmacologist. After attending school in Munich, Buchner went to study at the universities in Giessen and Paris . In 1839 he received his doctorate in philosophy , followed by a doctorate in medicine in 1842 . In 1847 Buchner received an extraordinary professorship for physiological and pathological chemistry in Munich, in 1852 he was appointed to the chair for pharmacy and toxicology at the same university.

From 1846 Buchner was an extraordinary and from 1849 a full member of the Royal Bavarian Academy of Sciences . He was also the editor of the journal "Repertorium für die Pharmacie" founded by his father from 1852 to 1876 and published the "Commentar zur Pharmacopoea Germanica" in Munich in 1872, a two-volume work with a German translation of the work discussed. He was also an author for the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie , where he described other pharmacologists in addition to the article on his father.

Ludwig Buchner's grave is located in the Old Southern Cemetery in Munich (Gräberfeld 6 - row 16 - place 3).
