Ludwig August Lebrun
Ludwig August Lebrun (born May 2, 1752 in Mannheim , † December 16, 1790 in Berlin ) was a German oboist and composer .
Life
The well-known and celebrated oboe virtuoso, he "enchanted with his divine oboe" - according to a contemporary report - was a member of the court orchestra at the court of Elector Karl Theodor in Mannheim. There is evidence that his father, also an oboist and probably of Belgian origin, worked at the Mannheim court from 1747. As early as 1764, when he was twelve, Ludwig August Lebrun performed with the court orchestra, and from 1767 he was accepted as a full member. He was a contemporary of Carl Stamitz and Anton Stamitz , who belonged to the Mannheim school .
In the summer of 1778 he married Franziska Dorothea Danzi , the sister of Franz Danzi , one of the most outstanding and best-known singers of her time. With her he traveled all over Europe: Milan, Paris, London, Vienna, Prague, Naples, Munich and Berlin were the stops. The couple's perfectly coordinated instrumental and vocal artistry was particularly praised, to whom numerous composers paid tribute with arias with an oboe oboe, such as Ignaz Holzbauer in Günther von Schwarzburg (1777), Antonio Salieri in L'Europa riconosciuta (1778) or Georg Joseph Vogler in Castore e Polluce (1787).
The musicologist Charles Burney writes about the couple's performances: "Franziska Danzi and the excellent oboist Lebrun usually travel together, and it seems as though she has listened to nothing other than his instrument, for when they perform together in thirds and sixths one cannot hear which is the upper or the lower voice! "
Lebrun died of complications from inflammation of the liver .
