Ludwig Robert Böhmig (born August 8, 1858 in Nieder-Ebersbach , † January 5, 1948 in Graz ) was a German zoologist and professor at the University of Graz .

Life

Böhmig was the son of a pastor. His teachers included Rudolf Leuckart , August Rauber , William Marshall and Carl Chun in Leipzig and Ludwig Rütimeyer in Basel. He completed his habilitation in Graz in 1887 and became an associate professor there in 1898. For a long time he worked for Ludwig Graff de Pancsova at the University of Graz and was his successor as director of the Zoological Institute in 1921, which he remained until 1929.

He dealt with different groups of invertebrates, especially vortex worms (turbellarians) and cordworms . He examined their anatomy, histology, and the development of their nervous system and organs. He also dealt with the taxonomy of turbellarians and cordworms, and he was the first to describe many species. For example, he worked on the turbellariums of the Belgian Antarctic expedition (published in 1908) and the plankton expedition of the Humboldt Foundation (published in 1895). In 1898 he became a member of the Leopoldina .
