Ludwig Beissner

Ludwig Beissner (born July 6, 1843 in Ludwigslust ; † December 21, 1927 ) was a German gardener and dendrologist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Beissn. "

Life

After being inspector of the Braunschweig Botanical Garden , Beissner served as inspector of the Bonn Botanical Garden from 1887 to 1913 . His plantings, which were mainly carried out in 1890, formed the basis for today's old stock in the arboretum of the Botanical Garden. Beissner's works Handbook of Coniferous Wood Studies and Handbook of Hardwood Studies were long considered leading.

Beissner was also the managing director of the German Dendrological Society and regularly wrote articles for the Society's communications . In the paper he also reported on the activities of the society, for example on the occasion of the Gdańsk annual meeting in 1911 on an excursion to the Arboretum Wirty, founded in 1875 in the Royal Forest of Wirthy .
