Ludwig Bowitsch
Ludwig Bowitsch , pseudonym Ludwig Bisthow (born August 24, 1818 in Döbling , † September 22, 1881 in Ober Sankt Veit ) was an Austrian poet and writer.
Life
The civil servant's son Bowitsch began studying law at the University of Vienna , but had to end it prematurely for financial reasons. In 1839 he entered the civil service at the court chamber procurator, and in 1842 he moved to the court chancellery. From 1850 he worked in the registry of the newly established Gendarmerie Inspection, of which he later became head of the chancellery. In 1879 he retired with the title of Imperial Councilor. After his death he was buried in the Ober Sankt Veiter cemetery .
In 1883 Bowitschgasse in Vienna- Hietzing was named after him.
meaning
Ludwig Bowitsch emerged from 1839 as a prolific author of late romantic poems and as a writer of fairy tales and legends. Collections that he edited were also widespread, especially the Austrian Ballad Book .
