Ludwig Friedrich of Gemmingen

Ludwig Friedrich von Gemmingen (born December 3, 1765 in Wimpfen , † February 14, 1816 ) was a French captain and landlord in Babstadt and Daudenzell .

He was the only child of Johann Philipp von Gemmingen (1729–1766) and Dorothea Regina Eleonora von Stein zum Reichenstein (1744–1799). After the early death of his father, he was educated for a while in Heilbronn , then came to the École militaire von Pfeffel in Colmar and in 1784 joined the French regiment Royal Allemand, where he rose to the rank of Rittmeister . At the outbreak of the French Revolution he returned to his estates and entered service in Württemberg. He was buried in Babstadt, where his tomb and that of his second wife have been preserved.

He was married to Caroline von Pren († 1807) from 1794. After her death he married his cousin Luise Amalie von Gemmingen († 1836), the daughter of his uncle Wilhelm Ludwig (1727–1799).
